Pastor Sara's Biography

Greetings to all of you in the name of the Risen Christ!

I am originally a native of Haywood County, North Carolina. I still have many family members that live

in Western North Carolina and I visit there as often as I can which is never often enough. Before I was

three years old, my mother and I relocated to Western Pennsylvania and I grew up in New Kensington.

I am a graduate of St. Joseph High School, Bradford Business School, and most recently Methodist

Theological School of Ohio’s Course of Study program at their Spring Heights extension school in West

My husband, Paul, and I have been married for over 25 years. We have three children, Rachel, who

is a graduate of Thiel College and living on her own. Katy and Sean are our twins. Katy is attending

Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA and studying chemistry. Sean is attending California University of

PA and majoring in archaeology.

My faith background is rich in different cultures, traditions, and settings. Growing up I attended Catholic

school for 11 years. At the age of 10, I was baptized in the Syrian Orthodox church. In the summers

while visiting down south, I attended Methodist and Baptist churches with my grandparents. At about

the time I turned 16, I realized that I needed to live out my faith in another tradition and after visiting

different churches I began to regularly attend the New Kensington United Methodist Church and

eventually join. I also worked as the Office Manager of a Presbyterian church for over 14 years.

Experiencing this wide variety of theological understandings has helped me to feel even more secure

in the choice I have made to live out my call to pastoral ministry in the United Methodist Church. I

began serving as the associate pastor of the Allegheny River Charge (Ford Memorial, Manorville, Rogers

Chapel, and Union Avenue UMC’s) in 2006. In January of 2013, I received a new appointment here at

the Kiski Charge (New Beginnings, Saltsburg, & Vandergrift UMC’s) as the co-pastor.

Each day I am so thankful that God has placed me in this setting to love and serve His people,

everywhere. Together as the Body of Christ, we can make a difference in this world, share the love of

God, and make disciples for the transformation of the world. One of my favorite Bible verses states:

“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?”

(Micah 6:8) Won’t you join me as we strive to live up to the words of the prophet Micah together?
