Pastor Sara's Biography

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ!

I am originally a native of Haywood County, North Carolina. I still have many family members that live in Western North Carolina and I visit there as often as I can which is never often enough. Before I was three years old, my mother and I relocated to Western Pennsylvania and I grew up in New Kensington. I am a graduate of St. Joseph High School, Bradford Business School, and most recently, Methodist Theological School of Ohio’s Course of Study program at their Spring Heights extension school in West Virginia.

My husband, Paul and I, have been married 30 years.  We have three grown children:  Rachel, Katy, and Sean.  Our daughter Rachel (who lives in New Kensington) will be getting married this year and we will gain a son, Jimmy.  Our daughter, Katy, lives in Mobile, AL and works in poverty ministry.  Our son, Sean, currently resides with us as he seeks a full-time position as an archaeologist.

My faith background is rich in different cultures, traditions, and settings. Growing up I attended Catholic school for 11 years. At the age of 10, I was baptized in the Syrian Orthodox Church. In the summers while visiting down south, I attended Methodist and Baptist churches with my grandparents. At about the time I turned 16, I realized that I needed to live out my faith in another tradition and after visiting different churches I began to regularly attend the New Kensington United Methodist Church and eventually joined. I also worked as the Office Manager of a Presbyterian church for over 14 years.

Experiencing this wide variety of theological understandings has helped me to feel even more secure in the choice I have made to live out my call to pastoral ministry in the United Methodist Church. I began serving as the associate pastor of the Allegheny River Charge (Ford Memorial, Manorville, Rogers Chapel, and Union Avenue UMC’s) in 2006. In January of 2013, I received my appointment here at the Kiski Charge and serve both the Vandergrift First United Methodist Church and the New Beginnings United Methodist Church.

Each day I am so thankful that God has placed me in this setting to love and serve His people, everywhere. Together as the Body of Christ, we can make a difference in this world, share the love of God, and make disciples for the transformation of the world. One of my favorite Bible verses states: “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8) Won’t you join me as we strive to live up to the words of the prophet Micah together?
